Hartwell Engineering is excited to announce the City of Canton WPCP (located in Georgia) has bid and is scheduled to begin construction in early 2021. The plant expansion consists of an upgrade to the influent grit and screens, a new fine screen facility, four new Biological Nutrient Reactors (BNR), a new Membrane Biological Reactor (MBR) facility, upgraded WAS and RAS pumping, a new UV Facility, new digesters, a new solids handling facility with dryers, and a new administration/control building.
Hartwell Engineering provided all electrical and instrumentation and control (I&C) design services for the project. The electrical design includes the upgrade to the existing utility service to a dual redundant feed, primary switchgear with main tie main configuration, several motor control centers in the new facilities, upgrades to the existing motor control centers, implementation of variable frequency drives (VFDs) to optimize operation, overhead wire ways due to extensive existing underground utilities, underground ductbanks, and overall facility lighting. The I&C upgrade provided a new PLC-based control system, fiber optic, and wireless communications, networking to manufacturers equipment and VFDs, a new human-machine interface system with remote monitoring capabilities, and new instrumentation throughout the facility.
